TEXTURE
CONSIDERATIONS
Inconsistent
siding texture is caused by hairy wood, differences in grain, and different
rates of weathering. The deeper more grainy textures have darker shadows
than the smoother textures. These shadows create a patchy look that is
most apparent when viewed from an angle.

If your house has inconsistent shingles or siding it is important to work
with the texture as opposed to fighting it. The patchy look is less apparent
on dark colors because the shadows creating the patchy effect are also
dark. Using a darker earth tone or a gray color on patchy shingles creates
a rugged weathered look that can enhance the natural character of the
siding. This look is often times associated with beach houses. On the
other hand the patchy shadows are usually unattractive on white or yellow
houses.
